Capture your favorite galaxies or challenge yourself to some faint galaxies with these QHY Astrophotography Cameras! We’ve listed out these models that also flow from beginner friendly to advanced. You should also know that each camera comes in a monochrome and color version.
Let’s get started!
Best QHY Cameras for Galaxy Photography
QHY 183 Cooled Monochrome CMOS Telescope Camera
The QHY183 camera is a one-inch, 20.48 megapixel back-illuminated color CMOS camera with a peak QE of 74%. The pixel size is 2.4 um which provides high-resolution even with medium size telescopes. If you are just getting started in capturing galaxies, the QHY183 is a great choice!
The camera is capable of producing 5fps up to at 20.48 megapixels which makes it excellent for capturing deep space objects. It has a two-stage TEC that cools the sensor to Neg.40-degrees C below ambient. The ADC is 12-bit / 16-bit with a read noise as low as 1e-!
William Burns, also known as Astroburns on Instagram, has an awesome collection of images he has captured using the color version of the QHY183M. Check out his incredible capture of the Orion Nebula below with this astro camera!
QHY294M Cooled Monochrome CMOS Telescope Camera
The QHY294M camera has an 11.7 megapixel, 4/3-inch, back-illuminated, cooled, monochrome CMOS sensor with 14-bit A/D. The QHY294M full well capacity is nearly 65,000 electrons with 4.63 um x 4.63 um pixels, almost the same as an interline CCD camera with 9 um pixels.
QHY268M Photographic Cooled Monochrome CMOS Camera
The QHY268 Photographic Cooled Monochrome CMOS Camera has a back-illuminated 26 megapixel APS-C sensor with 16-bit ADC and 3.76 um pixel size. This back-illuminated Scientific CMOS camera has extremely low dark current using SONY’s Exmor BSI CMOS technology. One benefit of the back-illuminated CMOS structure is improved full well capacity. This is particularly helpful for sensors with small pixels. Even with unbinned 3.76 um pixels the QHY268M has a full well capacity of 50ke-
QHY600M Photographic Cooled Monochrome CMOS Camera
The QHY600M Photographic Cooled Monochrome CMOS Camera is a full-frame sensor camera taking astrophotography to the next level. It has extremely low dark noise and a square pixel array with 60M effective pixels. This Monochrome version has a 3.76-micron pixel size, a sensor size of 36 mm x 24 mm, and 16-bit ADC. Experience sharp detail in a massive image fit for astrophotographers with this innovative camera from QHY.
